Favorite Recent Movies
« on: 06 Apr 2007 - 10:33 »
What are some of your favorite movies within the past oh, year or so? Don't forget to use the spoiler tag if you're writing any spoilers

Feel free to discuss them (and others) as well.

Here are some of mine:

Children of Men

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwsgkurfCjE

Amazing cinematography. Loved the story. Acting was great. Awesome dystopian setting.
And when he died at the end... Absolutely great. I like when there is that sort of realism, and they went through too much for them to just simply "survive." The symbolism there was quite fitting too; the previous generation could only do so much, the hope lies with the child.
My Rating: A+

The Fountain

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhbalzcPA_E

Amazing cinematography. Loved the story. Acting was great (yay copy paste, but it's true). A little more abstract, which is great.

My Rating: A

300

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZm52UrkDpA

Awesome. 'Nuff Said. Though, I found it funny that with all the blood flying through the air, they managed to not get a single drop on them.  :D

My Rating: A

The Number 23

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnMp5rW56J8

Pretty good. I love Jim Carrey as a serious actor. The movie was shot well, and the plot mostly help up.
It wasn't about the numbers, it was about how fucking crazy he was, which made it worth while.
My Rating: B+

Stranger Than Fiction

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJbNKzwRFUw

Not much to say, but I enjoyed this one.

My Rating: B-

Agree with you about 300....there was some iffy stuff in there (like, if they are all wearing cloaks, couldn't the enemy have just grabbed their cloak and choked them?  and, amazing how they were able to fight with totally bare torsos...and hardly get scratched..)

Anyway: that one wins my vote for best movie thus far.  However I'm biased because I go to the movie theater about once a year or less.   :D

Grindhouse was brilliant, funny, gory, and very, very entertaining.  You MUST see it in theaters, because a lot of the charm will be killed by DVD.

Did anyone see Pan's Labrynth? That's one I really wanted to see, but didn't get a chance to.

As a matter of fact, I did. It litterally blew me a way... changed my life and all that jazz. It is amazing- for a foreign film the graphics are pretty good, but the story is beautiful!

I've heard nothing but good things about it. First it wasn't showing in my area. A few weeks later, it started showing, but I couldn't get anyone else interested in seeing it. The night I finally did get a group to go along, it had stopped showing that night.

I guess I'll catch it on DVD.

Yeah, Children of Men didn't impress me either.

Now Stranger than Fiction - I often imagine what my own characters would say to me if I met them.

Another movie i just seen recently is Blades of Glory. If you guys are big Will Ferrell fans this is definetly one for you. And if anyone could find a link for Pans Labyrinth that would be awesome.
